Winner's Guide to Texas Hold'em Poker
Ken Warren - 1996

Rating: 1 (Very Bad)

This was the first poker book I ever read. That was a mistake. I didn't know it at the time, but this book did nothing but confuse me and my poker game. The book contains ambiguous advice and is not organized very well. It just seems to ramble on about isolated topics.

The one good thing I do remember from this book is his explanation of how to calculate pot odds in limit hold'em, by counting the number of bets (instead of the amount of money) as they go into the pot. It's weird that he does such a good job of explaining pot odds, yet all the statistics tables in the back are shown in percent (instead of odds). So I had to go and convert all the percentages to odds, just to make them useful. I would not recommend this book to anyone. There are plenty other books better suited for beginners, and this book has nothing to add to an advanced player's knowledge.
