David Sklansky & Mason Malmuth - 1988
Rating: 4 (Very Good)
This book is considered the bible for Texas Hold'em strategy. As the name implies, the advice in this book is for advanced players, usually playing at the high limit tables. The book is specific to limit Hold'em ring games. It does not contain any no-limit or tournament advice. As with any Sklansky book, HPFAP contains a lot of theory to go with its advice.
HPFAP has a very comprehensive preflop section, where they rank all the starting hands into 9 different groups based on their strengths. The post flop advice can get pretty tricky, and assumes you are playing against other good players. For that reason, most of the advice in this book would be overkill in a typical low limit game (FPS = Fancy Play Syndrome). All in all though, this is a must read book for any serious Hold'em player, but I wouldn't recommend it as your first book to read.
