Tournament Poker for Advanced Players
David Sklansky - 2002

Rating: 3 (Good)

This is the first major book dedicated specifically to poker tournaments. Although the title says it's for "advanced players", I have to say that I don't think the advice is very advanced. Basically, David Sklansky tries to introduce the different considerations and the adjustments you'll have to make when going from a regular ring game to tournament play. But, I don't feel that he really gives much helpful, specific advice. Most of the book is about general tournaments, not specific to Hold'em, and not specific to no-limit. When this text was written, structured limit tournaments were still the main stay, not the exception.

David Sklansky introduces his "gap" concept in this book. This theory basically says that it takes a better hand to call a raise than to raise your self. He also presents a description of "the system", where he recommends to a novice player to either fold or go all-in before the flop. TPFAP is a decent book, and worth reading, but there are now much better books available concerning tournament poker.
