Lee Jones - 2000
Rating: 5 (Excellent)
This is the best beginner's Hold'em strategy book there is. Lee Jones does a great job of covering the major poker concepts, without complicating things with too much theory or mathematics. He explains the reasoning behind the correct plays, but at the same time, he gives a set of standard guidelines that a beginner can follow in each situation. He advises a basic, straight-forward style of play that is perfect for beginners, keeping them out of trouble and avoiding difficult decisions. I used his advice (to the letter) during my year-long training period when I was building my bankroll at the micro-limits. (See my Step-by-Step plan.) I found that you can still make a good profit at the mid level limits, just by following his advice.
The book is well written, well organized, and it's easy to comprehend. I always advise any new poker player to read this book first. It will help establish a good, solid poker foundation for any player.
