Big Deal
Anthony Holden - 1990

Rating: 5 (Excellent)

British journalist, Anthony Holden decides to drop everything and give a try at his life-long dream of becoming a professional poker player. You get to travel with him, feel the ups and downs while playing in all the major poker events around the world.

This book unveiled the mysterious world of the major poker tournament circuit of the 1980’s. These are the days before internet poker, and before the big poker boom on television, when you still had to travel from city to city to find the biggest games and the best tournaments. Reading through the pages of this book makes you feel like you are the one living the dream.

The author starts at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, then takes you through one year on the road, and comes full circle to end it back at the main event at Benion's Horseshoe casino.

Any poker player would love this book (if not become infatuated with it), but it might not be that exciting to a non-poker player. I’m just guessing here, because there is a lot of hand play descriptions, and tournament decision thought process discussions throughout the book.
