Dan Harrington & Bill Robertie - 2004 & 2005
Rating: 5 (Excellent)
Finally, someone put out a book specifically about no-limit hold'em tournaments. Dan Harrington did a great job with this book. He discusses all the different considerations you need to keep in mind which make tournaments different from regular ring games. He also describes the different styles of play (conservative, aggressive, super-aggressive) that can be used, and the strengths and weaknesses of each.
This book is broken up into two volumes. The first sticks to early tournament decisions when you still have plenty of chips, you're still playing with full tables, and the blinds are not too high. The second volume dives into the unique situations that occur towards the end of a tournament, stuff like, playing with a short stack, short-handed tables, head's up, etc.
Dan Harrington has put together what I consider the best tournament strategy book there is. The end of each section is filled with example hands that let you practice your decision making, and analysis of each. This book definitely will open your eyes to massive amount of information you need to consider on every play in a hold'em tournament. No tournament player should go without reading these two books.
