Al Alverez - 1983
Rating: 4 (Very Good)
This book is a collection of all the great stories (and myths) of the old-time poker legends. It tells of the old days of poker, in the back room of bars and underground clubs, and how poker made it’s way to Las Vegas, and the beginnings of the World Series of Poker.
It has the classic tales of greats such as Jonny Moss, Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim, and Stu Ungar. There are so many colorful personalities in poker, and this book gives you a good peek at most of them.
The Biggest Game in Town does a great job of giving the reader a taste of what it’s like to be a life-long, high-stakes gambler. At times it’s sounds great, other times it’s not so glamorous.
This is a great book, and no one can consider themselves a true poker lover without reading this book.
