Pacific Poker

Pacific Poker is partnered with the largest online casino, Casino OnNet (888.com). I think that's why it has the worst players on the internet, because they get all the cross traffic from their casino games. The guys say, "Well, I'm losing at Blackjack, so why don't I try my luck at poker for a while."

That's why Pacific is my favorite site. The competition is so bad, that it's almost impossible not to win there. It's perfect conditions for playing "ABC" Poker. The vast majority of my profit comes from Pacific.

Party Poker

Party Poker is the largest online poker room, with as many as 70,000 people playing at any given time. Because it is so large, there are plenty of weak players, which make the games very beatable.

They have some of the biggest tournament online, including satillites for their Party Poker Millions tournament, which is played on a cruise ship for the World Poker Tour TV series.

Empire Poker

Empire Poker used to be a "skin" of Party Poker. Recently though, Party broke away from their skins. That means that Empire is now left with a lot less players. They still have the same look and feel of the Party software, but the games are totally seperate now.

The multi-table tournaments have smaller fields than Party. But, I don't like the fact that most of their large tournaments are now re-buy tournaments. I do like the color scheme and graphics, which are attractive and easy to follow the action.

Deposit Bonus - 20% up to $100

  • Quick payouts
  • Good multi-table tournament blind structure
  • Lots of reload bonuses
  • Smaller tournament fields (if you're looking for that)

Con's

  • Re-buy tournaments for most of the large tourneys

Paradise Poker

Paradise Poker used to the the biggest online poker site until Party's marketing blitz during World Poker Tour commercials. Paradise was the first site that I ever deposited with and played for real money. It still has a special place in my heart for introducing me to online poker.

They have sleek looking graphics, and even let you order virtual cocktails and snacks. Last time I played there though, the competition was pretty tight, except at the micro-limits. Paradise is a great place to build your bankroll by moving up the micro limits, because they have a great selection of levels that you can move up as you progress. ($.02/.04, .05/.10, .10/.20, .25/.50, etc.)

Deposit Bonus - 25% up to $100

Pro's

  • Great selection of micro-limits, starting at $.02/.04
  • Non-standard games (5-Stud, 5-Draw, Crazy Pineapple)
  • Good player statistics window

  • Minimum deposit of $20

Con's
  • Slow games
  • Software is a memory hog and sometimes crashes
  • Poor tournament structure (moves up too fast) for SnG's and Multi's

Poker Stars

Poker Stars is the top poker site for tournaments. Every year they qualify the most WSOP entries, and have produced the main event winner for the past three years. They offer a great selection of tournaments, including many non-Hold'em events. They have very large tournament fields, and very large prize pools.

The bad part about Stars is that there are just too many good players there. Many tournament pro's and solid players make a living here. I also find the graphics a bit distracting and difficult to follow the action, but others seem to think they have the best software/interface.

  • Best site for tournaments (variety and stakes)
  • Very knowledgable and helpful customer service
  • Micro-limits, starting at $.02/.04 (with no rake)

Ultimate Bet

Ultimate Bet is the place to go for high stakes online poker. They have the some of the highest stakes games on the internet. They also sponser some big name professionals like Phil Helmuth and Annie Duke to play on the site, so you can sit down and play with your favorite players from TV.

UB has unique graphics that always display you in the front seat of the table (and the other players are rotated around). Some people like this set-up better. UB also offers some unique poker games, like Triple Draw Lowball and Pineapple.

Deposit Bonus - 40% up to $200

Poker Room

Poker Room is a medium-sized site, but it's been around for a long time. The graphics are very good looking, while not being distracting from the action of the table. The software runs a bit slow, and they have frequent updates that take too long. There's enough weak/loose players there to make it worth while, but I prefer other sites to this one.

Deposit Bonus - 20% up to $100

Pro's
  • Sharp looking graphics and interface
  • Color-code your opponents based on their play
  • Macintosh and Linux accessable
  • Fairly weak competition
  • Minimum deposit of $10

  • Poor tournament structure (moves up too fast)
  • Not many large payout tournaments

Full Tilt Poker

Full Tilt Poker is a new, medium-sized site. If you watch any poker on TV at all, you will recognize their logo on many of the tournament pros like Phil Ivey and Howard Lederer. Full Tilt has done a lot of advertising to get their name out there. They sponsor many of the famous poker pros, which play on the site quite regularly.

This site uses a lot of bells and whistles in their software. They have cartoon avatars which you can actually change their emotions (happy, angry, or confused). There is almost unlimited graphics options you can chose from. All that being said, it's just not a very big site right now, and you will find it hard to find many games going.

Deposit Bonus - 100% up to $600

Pro's
  • Many graphics options
  • You can chose any seat location at the table, and the other players will be rotated around.
  • One of the only sites that offers the game of Razz

Con's
  • Too many graphics makes it distracting while playing
  • Not many players, hard to find tables at some limits, and tournaments are not very full
  • The bonus is very difficult to clear
  • The play is tighter than most sites (tough to win)

Royal Vegas

Royal Vegas is part of the Prima poker network. They are a relatively small site witch makes it a bit tough to find a game going at the higher limits. Royal Vegas is not my favorite site. I joined it a long time ago, just to get the free $10 for signing up. I have heard that the short-handed games are good though.

Deposit Bonus - 40% up to $40

Pro's
  • Good selection of micro-limits, starting at $.05/.10
  • Free $10 (no deposit required) for signing up
  • Good short-handed games
  • $20 minimum deposit

Con's
  • Hard to find a higher limit table going
  • Hard to find any full-tables (mainly short-handed)
  • Ugly/distracting graphics
  • Software is slow and has a lot of bugs
  • The worst tournament structures of any site (blinds go up too fast)
