Positively Fifth Street
James McManus - 2003

Rating: 5 (Excellent)

Positively Fifth Street is not only a great poker book, but it’s one of the best all around books I’ve ever read. I could not put it down once I started. It’s got sex, drugs, murder, gambling, strippers… What more could you ask for?

Jim McManus is assigned (by Harper’s magazine) to cover the Ted Binion murder trial and the 2000 World Series of Poker. What resulted was something so unexpected and exciting, that it wound up filling an entire book. Jim managed to win his way into the main event, and then fought the odds to make it all the way to the final table.

The book walks you through the murder case and trial, while keeping you on your seat with detailed descriptions of his journey through the $10,000 buy-in main event. You end up feeling like you are the one sitting at the table, playing to win the largest poker tournament on earth.

I highly recommend this book to anyone, poker players and non-players alike.
