An Expert's Guide to Winning at Poker
John Archer - 1978

Rating: N/A

The only reason I mention this book, is for its historical value, because this book is long since out of print. My dad found this old book up in his attic and gave it to me. I found it amusing to read the old poker advice book. The book briefly covers several different games (5-card draw, 7-card stud, high/low split, etc.), but doesn't have enough detail about any one game to be of much use.

The most interesting thing about the book was what it had to say about "the game of the future", called Texas Hold'em. In describing the game, they refer to the board cards as the "widow". There's a bunch of other anachronisms like this throughout the book, so if you can find an old copy, it's worth a glance. To be fair, I've actually heard some good stuff about its high/low split advice, but I wouldn't know if it was good or not (I don't play any high/low games).
