Tennis is usually the simplest trick beginners can try after learning the basic cascade. Once you have a decent 3-ball cascade going, tennis is pretty easy. The term tennis is often used in juggling jargon as any over-the-pattern throw. So, tennis throws can be added to many patterns to create a nice variation.
Instructions:
While juggling the basic 3-ball cascade, just chose one ball to throw from the outside of the pattern. Throw it up and over the other two balls. When you catch it, just go back to the regular cascade.
Now try to do the same thing with the other hand as soon as that ball lands on the other side. The wider you make your throws and catches, the more emphasized the tennis effect is (but it makes it harder to hold the pattern). It helps to throw and catch the tennis ball from a higher elevation than the other balls.
