Chip Roll

Watch Video - WMV - 0.9 MB

This is a fun trick that's pretty easy to learn.

  • Start first by practicing rolling only one chip.
  • Hold it between your thumb and your pointer finger.
  • Put your four fingers side-by-side and flat (in one plane).
  • Put your pinky flat on the table and angle the rest of your hand so that your fingers make a 45 degree angle wedge (or ramp).
  • Now, with the chip perched at the top of the ramp, just let go with your thumb. The chip will roll down the ramp. There is no need to "push" it along. Just keep your hand (ramp) perfectly still and let gravity do the rest.
  • To catch the chip after it rolls, just hold it at a slight angle, palm facing down, about an inch above the table. This will allow the rolling chip to park right into your hand, as you hold it up vertically when it stops.
  • Now, try it with three chips. Just release one at a time with your thumb. Make sure to keep your finger ramp perfectly still. Again, let the chips just roll down. Don't try to give them a push.
  • You should be able to catch them all by just letting them park themselves under you other hand, side-by-side.

You can do this trick with any number of chips, but it gets harder the more you add.

It helps to do the chip roll on a soft surface like the felt of a poker table. Doing it on a hard surface causes the chips to bounce out of your hand, instead of roll.
